Welcome to Dale Huckabee Knives!
Thank you for stopping by.
I started making knives, a long time ago, from kits. Eventually I started to make stock removal knives but became fascinated with forged blades after attending the Batson Bladesmithing Symposium in 1998. Until then I had never seen anyone forge a blade. I was hooked. I rigged up a makeshift forge, got a piece of railroad rail for an anvil and hammered out my first blade. I wasn't really sure what I was doing, but I stayed with it until I finally made a decent looking knife that would cut. Since then I have attended several classes at the American Bladesmith Society's school in Old Washington, Arkansas and now hold a journeyman smith rating with the ABS.
I make all my knives from the best materials I can obtain. My carbon steel blades are primarily made from 5160 or 1084 steel. My damascus is normally composed of layers of 1084 and 15n20. Occasionally I will use other steels, but these are the steels I use most and feel that I can get the best results from. I heat treat my blades myself and test each blade before I assemble the knife. I use mostly natural materials such as stabilized wood and antler for handles.
Each knife I make is an individual. Some will be similar but, as they are hand made, no two will be exactly the same. I stand by my knives and will repair or replace, at my option, any knife that fails, under normal use, for as long as I am physically able to do so. I will not be responsible for any knife failure due to abuse or misuse. Although I use stabilized materials, whenever possable, due to climate change and other factors beyond my control, I cannot guarantee wood, horn, antler, or other natural materials against warping, cracking, or deterioration.
Please visit my "Available" pages to see examples of my work and knives that are available at this time. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. I am a spare time maker with a full time job and crazy work hours. Email is the sures way to contact me. Please refer to my web site in the subject line so that your message will not be sent to junk mail. I am still working on this site and will be adding more as I go along.
Again, thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your visit.
